Three settlements for retrenched civil servants are being provided by the Government, one about eight miles from Kihikihi or Kawa railway station on the North Island main trunk line, anotiier at Kauriinu, and the third at Owhanga, both on the main trunk, south of Tauuiaranui. Applications for land are to be invited shortly from retired civil- servants whose superannuation allowance does not exceed £75 per annum, and the opportunity offered is such that within twelve months the new settlers should be producing from tiieir holdings. The Kihikiiii settlement is reached by a good formed road, and on it tfiere will be eighteen small farms of from 160 to 181) acres of fern or ti-tree country, while at itaurimu and Owhanga the .settlements" adjoin the main line and .are ot bush country subdivided into'smaller areas to the lvihikihi settlement. Liberal advances arc to be made towards the erection of a house, on each section, while tiie holders. will he given further advances nn to £2 lOs per. acre for felling bush and grassing, or up to £2 per acre for clearing and grassing the tern and ti-tree land.
