S.C. CALEDONIAN SOCIETY. Tlie annual .•necting of the :5011th Canterbury Caledonian Society ,viil be held to-night, when the following report nill lie smnbitted: — Your directors have very grcai pleasure 111 submitting a re]>ort : or the year ending 3lst -May, I'JU'J. showing that, notwithstanding that the year started with a debit balance -.if iJC.M) os lid, and finished with one of CI 4*. they have lieen enabled to pay olt £2OO of debentures, without decreasing the amount of their prize £3lo. or impairing the efficiency of their appliances. This, too, was effected 111 the face of the very keen opp>.->.tion. liberal prizes, and energetic eiforts oi a neighbouring Society hol.liiig its gathering on the same days. ' he success was largely due-to the performance of •" The Kilties" on tlie 2nd January, with the coiiscoiient result that the takings oil the second day ncru far in excess of the pr.-vio-'s n-cord. as also .in: the earnings ot the whole gathering. Tin. receipts I-oni leasing the ground an- nearly double what they were last yi-ar. I.iigeiy due to international '~:iotlial!. the 'CitglnUiiion. and the band coiit--i. lie.' professional shirts meeting n.vl very unfortunate wea'.hcr. and in l>:e l-.co of the disastrous n-sults to the .ii'iiantors the directors waived any. charge for rent. A feature, feature, and a very pleasing one, of tile gathering was tlie children's .nguland dancing. The amount raisvd to build the niagiutic'iit grand -land, which cost nearly £l.joo, lias now been reduced to £lO-3U, by the rcpavui'iit of £2OO of the debentures. Th • loresight of the directors who pushed home the scheme of building a grand - tand some three years --go is fully justified. It has been of the greatest benefit to the public, and being largely used and appreciated by them, ha.* recouped the Society. The caretaker, SI- tllanchett. by his industry and civility, has given your directors every satisfaction ; the grounds are kept in excellent order and condition.
