MEET AT WAINUI

A very large number of devotees of bunting were present at Wainui, Mr A. Barker's residence, near "Winchester,' on Monday, when the annual meet of the hounds took place there. The day was too warm "and summerlike to admit of scent lying well, but on the other hand, from a spectauclar point of yiew, the weather conditions were perfect. The attendance must .have been a record one for the fixture, a field of fully seventy well-mounted riders being present, and the spectators also were numerous. In the morning a cast was made in the large paddock oppo- ■ site the house and a hare was put up almost immediately, affording a, good run for a few minutes, bringing the field almost back to the starting point. In this little run the spectators had a capital view of hounds in full cry along a grass road leading to the homestead, > the'hare making good its escape in some paddock at. the back of the house. Another very fast spin took place before lunch,, a kill resulting. In the afternoon at the close of the day a first-class run took place in the settlements on the west of the railway line, the tricky fences being the cause of many an empty saddle, and when the hare • was finally run into, the field was thinned down to ten, among whom was a straight-going young lady rider.- Those riding included the Master (Mr A. S. Elworthy) on Craigmore, the Huntsman, on Kauri, the "Whip on Comet, Miss Julius on Liberty,-Sirs M. Harper on Kaitoa, Miss Temnle on Puck, Jliss Lyon. on Crusader, Miss F. Lyon on Katerfelto, Miss Westenra-on - a chestnut, Miss Barker on Billy, Miss D. Barker on Priscilla, Miss Orton on a black, Miss Hayes on Kittv. Miss Robertson on Rangi, Miss Collins on Burnside, Mrs .Bennett on Miss Tineler on Litte Nell, Miss Lavie on 'Agitator. Mr Denniston on Shirlev, Mr A. B. Temnle on Darby, Mr E. G. Temple on Matai, Mr "Wareing on The Saint, Mr Geo. MacMillan on Kate, My Cro T *"° on Lancet, Mr H. Crowe on Dawn, Mr H. Elworthy on Ironbark, Mr P.
