The weekly returns of the .bank of England show the gold, bullion and coin to amount to £'36,560,000. The reserve is £27,415,000, the proportion of reserve to liabilities being 59.20 per cent. The notes in circulation total £29,153,000, public deposits £14,859,000, other deposits £40,840,000, Government securities £25,369,000, other securities £30,621,000. Three months bills 2J per cent., short loans 1 per cent., bank rate 2£ per cent. Consols, 85 1-IG. , PRODUCE PRICES. The improvement In America has steadied the wheat markets. Cargoes are in small demand. Wheat afloat is offering at 43s 6d to 43s 9d, May steamer parcels 43s 0d~; Australian on spot, 47s 6d. Flour is firm and unchanged in price at London, but irregular at Glasgow, where Australian on spot is freely offered at 32s 6d to 33s 6d landed. Wool is strong and unchanged in price. Americans are operating freely. The Bradford market is firm, but quiei. Prices are unchanged. At the London sales the Matahui clip realised 10Jd, and the Omarama 10:1(1. : . . • ' „ • , The butter market is firm; Danish, 110s to 112s per cwt; New Zealand and Australian is cleared at late rates. There is a better inquiry for cheese.Stored is very firm ; New Zealand, 64s to 67s per cwt. ( • At the kauri gum sales 700 eases were offered and 137 sold. Bush gum is slightly dearer. Other sorts are unchanged.
