TIMARU A. & P. ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held in the offices of tlio Association on Saturday afternoon. ]"resent: Messrs R. H. Rhodes (in the chair), C. N. Orbell, A. S. Elworthy, T. Tescliemaker, D .Grant, J. Anstey, J. Austin, "W. J. Bassett, AV. R. Brookland, "W. Cartwright, It. Davie, AV. Harper, R. Irving, E. Kclland, H. Lowry, R. Parry, 0. S. Thomson', J. Wit-hell, and R. L. Orbell, secretary.

The Auckland Association wrote with reference to the conference of A. and P. Societies to be held in Wellington on Ist August, 1909 and asked that the Timaru Association send the names of its proposed delegates.—Messrs Tescliemaker and E. R. Guinness were appointed with Mr C. N. Orbell as emergency, and a suggestion was approved, that at the next monthly meeting, subjects be brought forward for submission to the conference at' Wellington. Messrs Chas. Besley and Wm. Kennedy sent in their resignation as members of the Association, and Messrs R. L. Fisher, J. Phillips, W. Anderson, W. Baxter, N.Z. Express Co., L. O'Callaghan and Co, A. Hill, Jas. Murray, L. B James, I) AVithell, G. Hilton, G. T. Duncan, L. D. Macgeorge, A. AV. Campbell, Imrie and Campbell, and T. R. Rhodes were elected new members. The Acting Director of Canterbury Agricultural College wrnte stating that in future tho returning officer would be notified to make a declaration of the poll for Board of Governors to the Timaru A. and P. Association. —Received. The sub-committee appointed to deal with' this matter were instructed to take action as soon as possible and will report to the next monthly meeting of the Timaru Association.

Mr E. R. Guinness asked for two months' leave of absence from the meetings on account of illness. Mr Donald Grant asked for six months' leave, and both applications were granted. Mr D. Macfarlane (Claremont) was appointed as a member of the committee in place of Mr B. Cochrane, resigned. The election of sub-committee was then proceeded with and resulted as follows Ground committee, Messrs F. 11. Barker, C. N. Orbell, and E. Kelland. Finance committee, Messrs A. S. Elworthy and H. Lowry. Emergency committee, Messrs E, R. Guinness, H. Lowry and A. S. Elworthy. Sheep committee, Messrs E. Kelland, G. Lyle, R. Parry and J. AVithell. Light horses, Messrs H. Lowry, J. Bassett, C. N. Orbell and T. Tescliemaker. Draught horses, Messrs A. Austin, AA'. Harper, 1). Shaw, R. Davie and R. Irving. Cp.ttlA, pigs, and produce. Messrs AV. "W. Cartwright, AV. R. Brooklond and J. Armstrong.' The Hon. J. Anstey waited on the meeting with reference to the Government turnip growing experiments being carried out on his and other farms. He stated that he had been in communication with the Minister, Hon. T. Mackenzie, and several officials of the Department of Agriculture, and had learned that the Minister would he m Timaru on the 3rd May. He thought it would be possible to get the Minister and officials to make an official inspection of the turnips on the day following. He had drafted a programme for the occasion, which iwas that they would meet the Minister at Mr T. Scott's about 1.30, and after refreshments the turnips could be-inspected. The actual programme would be advertised and he cordially invited all the public interested, to come out and be present at the inspection. The reason he had waited on the meeting that afternoon was to extend a special invitation to the members of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association. These experiments were the beginning of what lie hoped would be important series .of experiments of great benefit to the farming community. Mr Rhodes thanked Mr Anstey for his invitation, and said he had no dqubt all who could manage to do so would take advantage of it. Mr Tescliemaker also said a low words generally approving of the experimental scheme. The chairman gave notice or motion to alter the hour of meeting from 1.30 o'clock to 2 o'clock, as it was considered the latter would he a more convenient hour. It was decided that the ground and finance, committee, confer on the question of tho erecting of more extensive accommodation at the ■ show grounds and'tluv redemption of debentures, and report to tho next meeting. Accounts amounting to £lB 5s were passed for payment. The. secretary stated that the profits from the Raiii Fair would he about £.1(1. . ' The meeting then terminated.
