THE MORTGAGE TAX.
MR MASSEY'S OPINION. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 18. Mr Massey, Leader of the Opposition, stated yesterday that he considered the mortgage tax should be done away with, as it tended to make money dearer to the borrower, and not only that, but it had the effect of preventing money from being sent to the country for investment. "I have often wondered," lie added, "that business men took this matter so quietlv, and I am clad to see attention is at last being called to it."
