COURSING.
DEPUTATION FROM' TROTTING CLUB. At a. committee meeting- of the South Canterbury Coursing Cluo heia mtho Queen's JLiotei last evening; the prosiJir i. i\lc\vhirter,presiding, arrangements were made, in connection, with the coursing meeting to bo held on May 6th and 7th. The secretary reported that there wero about titty Rangitata hares now on the Jflumpton. and they appeared to be a good strong lot. A deputation, from the South Canterbury Trotting Club waited on 'tho mooting, Mr Sinclair, President, acting is <-hiet .spokesman. He asked, on'behalf of the club, that they bo granted permission to make a track through .tho Plumpton on tho grandstand side of the. escapes. Their idea was. to ,have ;a o-J furlong course, and ho stated that the track would only bo used when the Trotting Club held their meetings. They would want to have the track ! properly grassed and levelled, and ho assured those present that the alterations they would effect would not interfere with the coursing. It was said that tho PhimptQn .was only recently sown down, -and was well rolled there would bo no necessity to break up a course.' '-[ Mr Sinclair said this might perhaps meet the case, but they needed a good track. In reply to a question ho, said that if they' wore granted the privilego and allowed to form the course, they would not break it up,' until after tho coursing meeting to bo held next month. The chairman informed the deputation that they would consider tho proposition and the deputation • after thanking the meeting for their attentive hearing, withdrew. After a. short discussion it was agreed that subject to the approval of tho South Canterbury Jockey Club and tho trustees of tho racecourse, tho Trottini; Club be granted permission to make a track through the Plumpton, on condition that thov paid £5 annually for tho privilege, and that they guarantee to make good any damage or loss caused by them. . / _ A considerable amount of routine business was discussed and the meeting then closed.
