v Per Press Association. PAHIATUA, March 29. The Hon. Mr Hogg, Minister for Roads and Bridges, visited Pahiatua today and after receiving deputations from the Chamber of Commerce and' County Councils proceeded to Makuri. He proceeds to Pongaroa to-morrow and to Weber on Wednesday. AA'ELLINGTON, March 29. Cuba street was the scene of au exciting arrest on Saturday night. A constable was attempting to arrest a drunken man, who resisted violently. The latter was encouraged by several of the crowd, which consisted of over three hundred people. After an exciting scene the inebriate and three others were arrested. They were brought before the Court to-day and fines ranging from £2 to £o were inflicted for inciting to resist the police. One of the defendants was sentenced to a month's imnrisonmont. Young Kee, Ah Pong and Chow A'up were each fined £4O, in default two months' imprisonment by Dr McArthur S.M. to-day, and convicted of keeping a common gaming house in Hainiug street, AYellington. They were ordered to pay Court charges; in default 48 hours imprisonment. The cases were the result of a recent raid by the police.
