BURNED TO DEATH. Press Association-By Telegraph-Copyright NEW YORK, March 3. A high tenement building in New York was burned, and ten persons perished. Per Association. WELLINGTON, March 4. ' \ fire at 11 o'clock this morning, at Johnsonville, destroyed two wooden shops and dwellings, owned by 1. Bbuld, and occupied by P. Leighton, bootmaker, and David Morgan., fruiterer. COTTAGE DESTROYED. \n alarm of fire was given at 0..«) yesterday morning by the north town bell at Temuka, \'«nd the brigade were called to Dyson street, where it was discovered that the residence o Mr J. Burns, adjoining the butter and cheese factory, was in flames. About 130 am. Mrs Burns was aroused dense smoke in the bedroom, and discovered the walls leading to the S room smouldering. She raised the alarm, and neighbours, as they thought, subdued the flames. Mrs Burn's and her baby had at a friend's house, and were there when the second alarm was given. It is thought that some-portion of. the lining must have been smouldering and-, it broke out a second time with disastrous results. The were on the spot shortly after the alarm but eoulHot save'the building, winch was an old one, and it. was .complete y/ gutted. The insurances are:—Buiiciine, £2OO in'the Victoria otto;\fm ruin*, £IOO in the South British office. Mr J W. Burns is away at thup i church, attending the, National Dairy I Conference. ■-
