TIMARU A. v. ASHBURTON

The return match between the above clubs was played on No. 1 Athletic grounds yesterday afternoon, and resulted in a draw. Timaru won the toss, and Lynch, senr., and Fisher opened the innings to the- bowling of Harper and Davidson. Lynch played with determination, and with the assistance of Fisher, runs came very freelv. Both batsmen collared the bowling, and gave the fieldsmen "a day out." Andrews took up the howling and disposed of Lynch by having him caught in the long field by Davidson. The partnership yielded 140 runs. Cox then partnered Fisher, and runs came steadily, until Fisher had the misfortune to be run out. His innings showed improvement in his previous match, and he proved himself a capable bat. Lynch, junr., then joined Cox, and was beginning to make runs when, owing to bad judgment, was run out. Bain took his place, and he and Cox pulling well together, put on about 40 runs, whpn Cox was disposed of by O'Callaghan (playing sub for Ashburton) with a bailer. Overtoil joined Bain, and they kept the field moving until the innings was declared closed at 2/4 runs for four wickets. Overton played well for 20, and Bain, playing with ulentv of force, combined with good timing, gave a good exhibition of hatting for his 45. G. and C.
