BAND MATTERS.
To the Editor of the "Timaru Herald." 1 am the person referred to ia a local iu your paper of .Monday 17th in conneetion with a player leaving the Marine Band to join the Garrison Band, 1 have a little to say in connection with same.' The latter part of the local distinctly says overtures have beeM made to several' other players, and if inducements made "are accepted ib will go toward strengthening the Band (Garrison). I know nothing about the other players referred to. but for myself 1 had no overtures made to me, no inducements offered to me, I joined the band -of my own free .will, and would like to say to the person or persons who supplied tiie. information that if they mind their own business and leave mine alone they would 'have plentv to do.—T am. etc., WILLIAM CRAIG. Church. Street, January 19th.
[The chairman of the Garrison Baiitl Committee called yesterday to state that our informant had laboured under a misapprehension. The use of the phrase "secured the services" implies that an olfer was made to the euphonium player, and Mr. Depoff assured us that the contrary was the fact; the player sought the transfer, and was not in the least degree urged to make it. The chairman also denies positively that "overtures" have been made to other members of the Marine Band, so far at all events ns the officers were concerned. This disclaimer must be accepted, and it is to be hoped that if such a rule does not exist now it should be added to the etiquette of the bandsmen, that no member shall endeavour to proselytise members of the other band.
