BAND MATTERS.

To the Editor of the " Timaru Herald." Sir, —While reading your paper this morning I noticed a local on band matters. Judging from your local it would appear that the Garrison Band find it necessary to make overtures to members of the Marino Band, in order to make their 'band a first-class one. The Marine Band is practically a new organisation, and has made rapid strides during the few years it has been in existence. I think it ill becomes the Garrison Band, which , has been formed for a considerable nunlber of years, and ought to be in an independent position, to attempt to influence in any way the members of a band that has to rely entirely upon public support.—l am, etc., MUSICAL.
