JUDICIAL
CONFLICT OF OPINIONS
Per Press Association.
WELLINGTON, Jan. 12
The Wellington Law Society hold a different opinion to that expressed by the Attorney-General as to the necessity for .an . acting judge during Sir Robert S.tout!s absence, and have written Dr Findlay urging that another jiidge should be appoiiited. They point out; that at. the November sittings in particular Mr Justicfc • Chapman -said he was unable to give appointments for sixteen cases set down for hearingat that sittings; and tha.t lie was quite unable to give any appointments for several compensation- cases -which were awaiting hearing. Subsequently three of these cases were disposed of, -but the remaining thirteen are still unheard and appointments cannot be obtained before the 10th February, when tlie next civil sittings commence. - Besides the above there are on the banco list fifteen matters to.disDose of. Under the circumstances the Council suggests tlie advisability of some measures being taken..to .provide for tlie disposal or business during, the expected absence of the Chief Justice.
