A CHILD BINNED TO .DEATH:? A distressing accident _ occurred J oil Saturday afternoon about - 2 o'clock, whereby a bright' .little.,, girl named Smith, aged 6 years I[whosc parents reside in Sophia "street, almost opposite Chalmers Church) was the victim; «¥ a severe burning which resulted in-Jjor death at midnight. The little was playing alone in the back yanl, and must have picked •up a match somewhere, and striking it set Jier clotliing on fire. Her cries attracted Mrs Raymond, whose,- back premises adjoin Mr Smith's section, and wfce'h Mrs Raymond reachechher the child was enveloped in flame. She, at once ra*leS to Mr John Reid, bootmaker, and&fr A. Dunn, one of his bauds, who tiu6ceeded in smothering- the fire, though not before the girl was badly bnraqd about the body and' Gil&dh was sent for, and-he advised that 'the. child be taken" to-the hospital, at loiicS, and she was taken up iii'-Ccliafge of Miss Page. The little sufferer' was so severely burned that she succumbed, to to the shock, about midnight. Much sympathy is felt for Mr and Mrs Smith in their sudden and painfurioss of one of their younger children. * •
