BATTLE OF FLOWERS.
A PRF.TTY SPL'CTACLF.. Sunny Jeifeey, peopled by many thousands of visitors, held its annual Battle of Flowers, the prettiest scene of its gala week in August last. The battlefield selected for this typically Continental fete was, as in ptevious years, th« two mile long marine drive that runs westward from St. Helier, Jeisey's capital town, at the foot of a. gentlv sloping and terraced hill, wh-c-h made a capital vantage ground.for the spectators,, The park and promenade parallel to the/ drive was also thronged. Twenty thousand was the estimated immberjihat joinedjirf the fete. ' -Happy. hundred lavishly,''and artistieaily-decoraled vehicles -were divided into eight classes. Particularly pretty, too, were the exhibits in th« children's: competitions. There were classes for four-wheeled and twowheeled vehicles, cyclists, equestrians, motor*, and emblematical cars. .Special prizes were offered for the best exhibit by visitors and by the farmers, as well as for the best wildnower decoration.
