The intelligent portion of the community -hojrld be fairly familiar with -Mr Guthrie's achievements so it can. with satisfaction to itself, heartily congratulate him on the excellent beginning he h.is made in the career to which he has so zealously devoted himself. Mr Guthrie hes added 10 an Otago University and,local Theologi.cal College training the hall-mark of a distinguished course at Yale University. And io has been made apparent- that in this great intellectual beat, and throughout his sojourn in the States, he availed himself of his opportuiutit'b fur enlarging his ideas and broadening his experience in a way that has been of great value to him, Such an experience as he has enjoyed should help it man to be " wisely wqrdly. uoc worldly wi»e.'* During his brief return visit to New Zealand Mr Guthrie has impressed all who have heard him as a vigorous thinker and an impressive preacher. AHe will cany back to America with him the cordial goird wishes of hk, fellow townsmen, who: will wateh lis future career with inter.it. anticipating a day when the qualiiits which have enabled him so early to fak<4 the position he now j occupies will carry him far to the front j in ;he important apht-re of life which he j has entered. A young country like New Zealand does not like to lose the b st of her young men. and will always find satisfaction when her Rhodt* scholars and other j distinguished students return to her.
