Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 28. . A dangerous-mode of amusement was devised by a young man named Denis William Quill when he look to masquerading through the public streets attired as a woman-. Quill was apprehended in Pirie or thereabouts one night lately after 10 o'clock and conducted fb the police station. This morning accused, who was defended by Mr Devine, appeared before Mr W. P. James, S.M-. at the Magistrate's Court, charged with being an idle and disorderly person within the meaning of the Police Offences Act, and with, masquerading in the dress of a woman. , Tndefence.it was urged that accused'had not boen seen interfering with passers-by in any way, and had donned the strange garments merely as a means of providing himself with a new gaiety. The borrowed plumes (exhibited) had come in for some rough treatment while accused was being chaperoned I ty the police station,. and were a mass of disorder. '•-'.- Quill assured. the Bench that he had bought them cheap, and out of sheer devilment was wearing them for a similar fantasy. His Worship pointed! out that accused was liable to a sentence of six months for the offence, . and admonished him to forego jokes of such a nature. The charge was dismissed.
