Similar permission with reference to the section leased by Messrs Somerville and Wilkinson. A letter from Mis McMillan, complaining of insufficiency in the high pressure water supply, was after some consideration left in the hands of the overseer. The. manager, Geraldine branch of the C.F.C.A wrote drawing attention to the necessity for two channel crossings. —Some discussion took place as to who was to bear the cost. It was decided to support the candidature of Mr J. Sealy for the yacancy on the Land Board. On the motion of the Mayor it was decided to take the necessary steps towards getting an Act of Parliament passed empowering the Council to lease the market reserve for other than grazing purposes. The question of lighting the back streets postponed from last meeting, was further considered. Councillor T. Sherratt proposed placing a lamp in front of Mr A. G. Turner's residence near the culvert in Cox street.—This suggestion was carried. It was decided on the motion of Councillor Hislop to have some trees planted round the generator house. The Mayor and Councillor T. Sherratt were deputed to meet Mr Gresham and draw up conditions for forming, grading, and culverts ,etc, en the proposed new road through, his property. The overseer reported having been engaged in repairs to the streets and culvert in Ferguson street caused by the recent rains. A suggestion that the Council procure a plough was made. To date 96,000 feet had been consumed since the Council took ■ over the service and there were at present 22 suppliers and the applications for private connections totalled —lb was decided to arrange if possible with the Geraldine Road Board for the use of their plough. In thanking Councillor Hislop for carrying out his dirties during his absence, the Mayor said he now found that his business would necessitate his being away from Geraldine for three days a week, and though at present he hoped that it would not be necessary for him to reside permanently in Timaru, it might even come to that later. He had no idea when he consented to-accept office for the present term - that the changes referred to would be likely to take place, and it was foi| the council to yay whether -Jtihey thought it advisable for him to, tender hi 3 resignation. Councillor Hislop said he was sure the wish of the Council was (Unanimously against such a step, and for his part he would always be willing to ass*M> in "carrying out the duties when necessary. Councillors T. Sherratt, Logan and Sutherland endorsed Councillor Hislop's remarks and expressed the hope that His Worship would long retain the position which he had filled with entire satisfaction to everyone. His Worship thanked them for their kind remarks and said that -he did not wish to retain the position and carry out the work in anything but a thorough manner, but he was willing to do the best he could in acceding to their wishes.
