TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Temuka Road Board "was held yesterday. Present—Messrs Talbot, Hide, Bisset., Axmitage, and Coira. Valuation Department, notifying that the subsidy for 1907-8, -wider the Local Bodies Finance and Powers Act 1885, amounting to £250 was cent to the Treasury for-payment. Sir George Philips wrote asking for larger pipes to carry the surface water near his property.—Agreed to. ■Mr Ensor, Royal Insurance Company, waited upon the Board with regard to_ allowing his office to take over the risks current with the Board. —The application was. granted. .Sir Talbot proposed and Sir" "Hide seconded a motion that the Government be asked to as early as possible amend • the present mode of Section of members to theTimaru Harbour Board, in the direction of : equalizing the; voting powers as between Borough and' County ratepayers, so far as relates to those cases in which a county • riding and a; borough jointly elect a member, this Board strongly urges .that the provisions in-the Counties Act with regard to county elections should apply. • The motion was carried unanimously. The overseer's report*referred to the culverts in the vicinity of the town and outskirts. Larger pipes were ordered to be put in at yarious crossings and blockages that had'occurred are to be cleared. The raites - received during the month amounted to £57 14s Bd. : The credit balance at date was £ll4l 14s Id. Tha:meeting then terminated.
