OAMARU, July 30. Tlie South Island . Counsing Club's maiden strike was run- to-day; in fino weather and before, a limited numbex* of specta;tors. Only a small, entry had been received but ,several outside dogs- were present, the two of the three that r<iii into the finjil being nominated .by a Hawke's Bay- oAvner.. The earlier rounds w-ere nob interesting-, and at the end of iSiree rounds only Paddy the Pointer, Goldspur and Ascrasia; were left in, the Mst-named having the bye. goldspur was "tlie least fancied of the 'three, but he developed an unexpected turn of - speed • and successively beat the North Island dogs, annexing the first- prize, for J.
