ELECTRICITY IN TIMARU.
To the Editor of the "Timaru Herald." Sir,—The air has lately been fall of electricity, but the protest from Mr Wm, Hay in your paper to-day really shows what a monopoly tJie Timaru Borough Council, gave way to at its last meeting. When such men as Mtteis ilay lsio.hen, step in and improve the town the way they have done by erectiing such magmticent buildings, and installing two electric lifts (the first in South Canterbury) in anticipation of being supplied by ■ tlhe corporation with power at a reasonable cost, it is gratifying progress; but when we see tney have com** to a <iecision to iiake them out again on account of the prohibitive cost of current adopted by the Council, something is wrong.. If as your paper stated, a few days ago a similar lift in Christchurch, running practically continuously, costs 12s a week, why should it ecet in Timaru 4&> per week?
