THE TTJAPEKA SEAT. Per Press Association. HERIOT, May-18. Mr Robert Scott, ;i candidate fur Taupeka, addressed a meeting at Heriot tonight. He si;id that he was opposed to the present Government, but- did not pledge himself to always support the Opposition. If th? Govvernment brought forward measures for the good of the people, he would support- them. He. opposed the Government because of its land legislation, its methods of retaining power and its policy of opportunity and tsail-trim-ining. He favoured the. freehold system. Taxation had increased notwithstanding the. increased population. The Dominion was increasing her debt, but not getting value for the money. He believed in ah assisted immigration scheme, and opposed Bible-reading in schools.
