Tli? cruiser Proserpine, iu the- middle of April, captured in the Persian Gulf an Afghan dhow, containing 1650 rifles, and a- million, cartridge?. Most of the weapons were of French manufacture.
Owing to Afghan threats to' destroy the English reservation at Jask, the cruiser Hyacinth landed marines, and trained her guns on the town. While the Prc-serpine was- trying to intercept two suspicious coasters, the Afghans, who were concealed, opened fire, killing a coxswain, and seriously wounding -another. _ The ? uirincs still protect Jask.
