In connection -with the engineers' strike a- provisional settlement has been arranged and Uie dispute will bo submitted to a ballot of the engineers.
COMPENSATION CLAIMS.

DUNEDIN, February 26.
Some months 'ago a plasterer fell from a building and was killed. The Arbitration Court awarded £3BO as compensation and directed that the money was to be devoted by the Public Trustee to the maintenace of the deceased's illegitimate) child, aged six years and its mother.- A claim has now been lodged on behalf of deceased's wife whom he deserted in Victoria some years ago and her crippled child. In view of the peculiar and difficult circumstances of the case, the Trustee intends bringing the application before the Arbitration Court for «■ decision.
WELLINGTON, February 26.
In the compensation case, Brown r. Heenan and Froude, contractors, a- claim for injuries .sustained by a fall ub the new destructor, the jury returned a verdict for £SOO. Costs were' allowed according to scale.
