THE TIMARU BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Timaru Borough Council meets this evening. The overseer reports that- the fencing ;ifc the abattoir, .and the bathing stage on the north mole sire completed, also two battling vans, and three more are in hand. The new hose carriage was also finished and did credit .to Mr Trengrove, the builder. As the brigade could not receive it yet he had asked Ala' Trengrove to store it for the present. Asphalting, metalling and street cleaning are reported on. Good progress was being made with the cleauing = of the water-race, and a good supply of water was being kept up at the reservoir. The draft on the mains had been more than 'they could cany, owing to a free use of garden hose. Some people left, the hose running! all night and he intended to fit meters on the supplies of some of the worst offenders,-. because the residentson the higher levels had to suffer when there was an excessive demand on the supply. When the next shipment of pipes arrives a 6-ineih line should, be '.run from, North street to Commercial street, to strengthen the supply northw irds. The water was cut. off for 2 hours on ;the 16th, a holiday, to enable some repairs and alterations to be made.
The sanitary inspector submits his usual report on routine work. He meiitk<:is that two cases of scarlet fever, had been notified in the borough in the last fortnight. During the month he had .ins<pettel 120 fireescapes and issued f hdtis-;-uibcr,of certificates"; and several inspections and t Vts of drains .and, plumbing v.otk- had been made.
