A UNITED PROTEST. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, December 9. The Chinese of the Dominion have 6ent a protest to the Minister of Internal Affairs (Dr Findlay) against the Chinese Immigrants' Amendment Act,, which has been reserved; for the royal assent, and which 6eeks to impose an education test in English in addition to the £IOO poll tax.
The petitioners urge that no exemption is provided for Chinese residents of New Zealand now visiting China, who have na facilities in the districts they are visits ing to learn to read English. . Further they urge that the Act is opposed to the well-recognised principles of international law and is unfriendly to the Chinese Empire. They are asking His Majeety to refuse assent to the Act.
