FIRES.

Per Press Association. GORE, November 1

Wavte's dairy factorv at Otamitata was destroyed by "fire to-day. A nor'-west gale was raging wild ' nothing was saved. About £SO worth of cli.etce (uninsured) was also destroyed. The factory was insured in the State Office for £7O. Itis thought that a spark from the boiler fire was blowii amongst firewood, and caused the disaster.

About 4.50 yesterday afternoon a telephone message was received at the Council Chambers saying a fire had broken out at the rear of Dr. J.oughnan's residence. High Street. An alarm was given and a few members of the brigade took a reel up to the scene of the fire, when it was found that some trees and grass adjoining the railway were burning. The I're was apparently caused by some hotembers from an engine having been thrown out near the trees and wtfcmg the dry grass alight. Some difficulty vra-.i experienced in quenching the fire owing to some burning where the water could not reach them. Thexe logs had to be turned over and raked about to enable the stream of water to get into every nook and cranny. The monetary damage of the fire was very little, but" an ugly eyesore will now be left until the charred stumps are removed.
