The South African Cricket Associaiion have resolved to invite an Australian team to visit South Africa in 1909. \ THE GEKALDINE CLUB. The annual meeting of the above was held in the Parish hall on Thursday evening, Mr B. It. McDonald presiding* 'j. he report showed that a satisfactory season haJ. been experienced while the bal-ance-sheet showed a credit balance of £ll 16s 3d. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet the chairman referred to the unsatisfactory management of the South Canterbury Cricket Association on account of which several matches had been lost. It had been suggested that they should not affiliate but he was averse to this as it would deprive them of many material advantages. Dr Hislop thought that itwould be batter to have the Association's headquarters shifted to Temuka or Geraldine as being more central. Mr A. McLean said that as far as interclub cricket was concerned the season had not been a success. It had been all travelling and very little cricket. They had not been able to finish some of the matches. He thought every effort should be made to have as many matches as possible with Woodbury, Orari Gorge, Winchester and the surrounding districts. More encouragement should be given to the younger player? and he suggested that more mixed teams should b-? played, He thought it

would be more satisfactory if they arranged their own matches instead of leaving it to the Association as they had done last vear - • , , The election of officer-bearers resulted as follows:—Patron, 5 Mr F. McLean, W. K. McDonald and Dr Hislop; selection committee, A. McLean. A. B. Temple and G N. Young; match committee, A. G Turner, W. C. Christie and Dr Hislop; captain, Mr B. R. It was agreed to contribute the same amount to the Domain Board as last year, viz., £lO levy and £5 bonus to the caretaker. Several new members were elected and those .present spoke in hopeful terms of a good season's sport.
