SUPREME COURT.
* Per Press Association. Charles Dunn and Frank Morrow were charged with wounding one Gienberg with intent to do bodilv iharni. Dunn m* found not guiltv; Morrow was ..found guilty of common assault and remanded till the morning for sentence. At the Supreme Court to-day Jtweph Norman, in Avhose case the jury disagreed last Friday, was convicted of an unnatural offence and sentenced to two years' imprisonment. William Jowett Hirst, who was convicted of perjury last week, was sentenced to nine mouths' imprisonment. At the civil sittings Michael Bee Deniuth, a clerk, of Wellington, claimed £4OO damages' from St. (George A. Dowsing, a clerk in the Land and Income Tax Department, Wellington, for libel and .s'a-nder. It was asserted, that last 'December defendant told one William Lingard, that his (defendant's) daughter, aged 16, had been taken from the custody of her parents and induced by plaintiif to enter into a clandestine correspondence and otherwise rebel against .th-s authority of- her parents-. Defendant asked that plaintiff be dismissed from the emplnyof Lingard and Co. Defendant -also wrote to Lingard and Co., .saving that he intended taking criminal proceedings against plaint-ill'. Thu*'Court awarded £SO- damages, with costs on the lowest scale. DUXI'.DJN, August. 19. ■Hhc criminal sittings of the .Supreme Court- commenced this morning before Mr Justice Williams. Douglas McDonald Morris, a- lad, was ordered to conu up for sentence when called upon for breaking and entering. Francis Nolan received 12 months' imprisonment for stealing from the person. Robert Thomson was ordered to come up for sentence when called on. while. CaH da.robson was sentenced to nine months and Daniel Caliaghan to 12 months' imprisonment for broaching cargo. In the case of James Wr'tirhf Campbell. 67 years of «.<;e, against whom (hero Mere several charges of theft, etc.. sentence wa.s .suspended to enable His Honour to consider M-lr.t was best.
