The Earl of Aberdeen declined to grant the petition from the Belfast constabulary, on the ground that the condition precedent \o any representations must be complete re-establislunent of discipline. The industrial award in the General babourers'_Union dispute has' been file jt A ! week's work is not to exceed 48 hours, and rihall be fixed by each employer to suit his particular business. In tunnel work the hours must not exceed eight per shift. Six hours will constitute a day's work when men are -working in wet places or among foul air. The minimum rates of wng-ts for tunnel and timber men is 10s per shift; all other workere employed underground, -9s ; ijuarrymen, 9s; labourers not spceifhd, if employed continuously for one week or more, 8s per day; for a loss p?riod, Is ljd per hour. The award, which is riot to affect contracts mads be-for-a Udo hearing of the dispute, is t'of come into force on 'September Ist'-next, and expire on September Ist; 1909.
