TIMARU—FRIDAY, JULY 27th. (Before Mr C A. Wray, S.M.) EOLICE CASES. W. Burnett was charged with breach of a. borough by-law by driving • a motor ear at more than tour miles an hour over the Barnard street crossing of-G-eorgi* street. Sub-Inspector Green itated that defendant drove round the two corners from Barnard street into Sophia street at ten or twelve miles an hour. Defendant admitted that he was going at more than four miles an hour, though the engine was cut off. His Worship said defendant would find it- worth while- to study the by-law. . He did not want to be hard on' any one, but the by-laws must' be observed.—Fined 20s and costs 7s. ' V. Rodgers, expressman, was fined 5s and costs 7s for leaving his vehicle and horses unattended. Sub-inspector Green stated that the express was left in Church street, and the horses moved away, but were caught at Strathallan street. There might have been an accident. T. Thomson, draper, charged with hanging clothing on (Street verandah post.?, did not but sent a letter explaining that the breach was due to employees who disregarded his instructions. , His Worship said there was a greaf deal of obstruction of footpaths. He imposed a fine of. 5s and costs 7s-. A. first offender, brought from St. Andrews, was fined 10s and costs 10s. .'CIVIL .CASES. Evidence of a witness was taken for transmission to Gore in a case J. Murphy v. P. Lyons, claim £6O 7s for work and labour done. Mr W. Shaw appeared for defendant.
