GERALDINE ROAD BOARD

• The usual monthly meeting was held yesterday. Present: Messrs J. Kelland (chairman)," Barker, Mulvilhill and Wharton. The Geraldine County Council wrote stating that they approved of the Board's recommendation re small birds. Dr Patterson reported a case of scarlet fever on the main road. Mr J. Temple, Hilton, asked the. Board for new planks over the second ford near his property at Kakahu.' The matter attended to. Mr A. Metcalf asked for three planks for the water race at Tabenders road, Rangitata.—Overseer to inspect. The- Department of Agriculture asked the Board to take steps towards destroying the rabbits now appearing in the Board's plantations.—To be attended to. Five ratepayers between the Geraldine traffic bridge and Woodbury road asked the Board to make a footpath on the east side of the road. The Board could not, see its way to accede to the request. A Christehurch firm forwarded estimates and particulars of a rock ' crushing' plant at a cost of about £SOO. —The Board were of opinion that something would have to be done towards getting a plant as it had cost £SO this year for breaking stones by hand, and the roads were far from being satisfactory, and half the stones were not broken. The Board resolved to keep the matter in view,; and to thank the firm in question for the information furnished. The'S.C. Hospital and Charitable Aid Board forwarded balance sheet, etc. To be considered. The manager of Four Peaks station drew attention to the bad state of the road in that vicinity.—Worst parts to be shingled. Mr T. Markham waited on the Board with a request for new planks for water race at Six Cross roads, and also for a few yards of shingle to keep the water in its place and prevent it overflowing on his land.—To be attended to. Messrs Flatman and Tilleridge offered to erect a. fence between their land and one of the Board's reserves if the Board found the material.—The Board considered themselves liable for half cost of the fence. Mr F. Flatman. jun.. asked that a culvert on Gould's road be lowered to give him sufficient, outfall for his drainage and offered to find labour if the Board supplied the pipes.—Overseer to inspect and report. The overseer's report was read and adopted. Accounts for £lßl 5s 2d were passed for payment.
