Calcutta"correspondent reports that disaffection is afitqlihg the Bengal peasants, landholders '<( nd 'autocracy more than is supposed to be'the ..case in 'England. The King's birthday was almost, unnoticed except amongst .the Mohammedans. A campaign of sedition is being conducted at Calcutta. Revolt against the law, and the. boycotting' of: British goods are everywhere preached,, and a social boycott is enforced /tSipse maintaining relations with English officials. The Government are unable to prevent the persecution of Loyalists. Many-Europeans are assaulted, and are compelled to carry arms, and the railway carriages containing Europeans are nightly pelted" with stones. An impression is current that many\ firearms are reaching Eastern'" Bengal. The Eurojjeans are demanding more police and troops; also sterner measures against'the, seditious organisation called the National Volunteers and seditious orators and newspapers.
