THE COBDEN CLUB.

A FREE TRADE RALLY. Press Assoeiation-By Telegrarjh-Copyright Received 10.17 pirn., July sth. ' .LONDON.'JuIy 5. At the Cobden Club's annual dinner Mr Churchill said that no offer'was made to the' Imperial Conference except the offer to take ''everything ire can give." The Conference had produced -absolutely, no effect upon the free trade forces of the equntry, or the organisation of the Liberal and Radical parties; but had produced a profound effect upon the Conservative, -which was noiv a homogenous, solid and agreed protectionist party. The Imperial preference movement did not derive its force from a desire to unify the Empire. If not .supported by the driving power of selfish vested interests the movement could' possess no life, stability or strength. Subventions were common objects and served to unite the Empire,, equally as well as preference. Senator Pulsford, of Sydney, in responding for vhs cause of.free trade declared that .hundreds of thousands of Australians were free-traders, .and gloried in Britain's free trade policy. . Some day ti wave of free trade opinion would sweep over the Commonwealth,' determining it to j-tand shoulder to shoulder with the Motherland in attempting a free-trails Emnire.
