Tin following are the returns of the Timaru Magistrate's Court business for the quarter ended June 30th. Pensions —Applications received, 11; gra-. -.d, 4; refused, 3; pending 4; renewed, 32. Breaches of the P«ice—Number taken into custody, 20; discharged, 2; dismissed, 4. Assaults —Number arrested, 3 ; convicttion for indecent assault. Theft and Forgery—Number arrested 28 ; . discharged, 6; committed for trial. 2; dealt with summarily,, 20. Breaches of By-laws, Licensing, Healtl. and other Acts—Seventy-one males an< threa females were taken into custody fo> ■this class of offences. . Drunkenness and . offehpcs' not otherwise •■specified—-Number taken into custody, Ov males and 5 females. ; • Civil Cases—Number of summonses issued, 218; amount sued for £1623 -4. 4d; amount received, £705 16s : ld. T'hir teen distress warrants, 26 judgment sum mons, and three warrants of commit ta" were, issued'. These cases were all dealt with by the Stipendiary: Magistrate. . Fees—Civil fees amounting to £9O 18; and licensing fees, £ls 8s; were paid during the quarter.
