THEATRE ROYAL.

A ROTABLE 'CONCERT. The- programme for the Black-Premyslav coucert, to be given in the Theatre Royal this evening, is published in tliis is&ue. Special interest is being manifested in the Scotch ballads set down for Mr Andrew Black, but other than purely .Scottish tastes ara catered for in the numbers of tha famous baritone. Mr Andrew Black's erainence in the musical world has long baen firmly maintained. Without a rivai in oratorio, he holds his own as' a magnificent exponent of the great operatic arias of the Italian school, and is equally happy in .singing with telling sympathy ballads culled from the illimitable stores of "old country" melodies. It is indeed a pleasure to hear this great singer giving glorious voice to the patriotic songs of Scotland and Ireland. In conjunction with the eminent baritone is a young Polish violin virtuoso, M. Leopold Premyslav. This artist is stated by the New York " Musical Courier" to po:-sers " a technique big and brilliant, a tone full and sweet, and a most admirable cantabile playing." He has played in nearly all Continental cities, and has performed a concerto with Riehter's famous orchestra in Manchester. Of this- concert in the Queen's Hall, London,' the papers spoke with, unfeigned admiration ; and in Sydney recently he was acclaimed as the rival of Kubelik. With these two great master:? of music, a popular soprano (Miss Rosin;t, BuckiTiann), and a highly-thought-of pianist* (Miss Bessie Beat'tie) form an undoubtedly strong concert combination. Tonight's cone<.rt is being given under tlipatronage of 'the Mayor, who will welcome the party on their arriv.il li« Tiniarn. find of the Savage Club, who will entertain Mr Black and M. Premyslav after the performance. The box plan at the Dresden has filled well, and there is every prospect thai tlxc- mv.sical circles of Timani will not neglect this unique opportunity of heaving something in the very fiivt nights o( music. Tickets for all parts of the Theatre may be obtained this morning at the Dresden, thus obviating the possibility of inconvenience at the doors. ANDREW MACK'S SEASON. Mr Andrew Mack, an Irish-American prior of note in the United States, will make his debut at the Theatre Royal on Monday evening, wfien he will appear with an American Company in the new drama " Torn Moore." In this play, founded on

{.lie life, of lli!>. Irish poet Mr Mack, who has a voice of great swetness and charm, will sing some, of Moore's popular melodies. The plays of Mr Muck's repertoire do not present "grotesque exaggerations of Irish mannerisms- (of which we. have had too many in the- so-colled Irish plays presented during the- past few years), but the romantic, pleasant, and poetic tempera-, menfc of the wall-bred natural Irisliman an he really is. No doubt this refreshing change contributed, together with the highly acclaimed talents of. the artist and the merits of his supporting company, to the sensational succes-s of his Australian tour two years ago, when he established a reputation." which might be envied by any star of the present day. The Timaru season is /limited to one night- The box plan is now on view at the Dresden. HARRY RICKARD3' 'SEASON. ; The box plan will open this morning for the coming season of Mr- Harry Rickards' Vaudeville Company, which commences at I the Theatre Royal "on Tuesday next for r limited number.of nights. In addition to the European stars already referred to in the-se columns, Mr Rickards is sending quite a number of Australian .artists, among whom may be mentioned Miss Ada Sadler, the popular Australian contralto; Mr. George Dean, th? well-known descriptive vocalist and character comedian ; Messrs Rochfort and Hart, wb/wi duets' will ba ' pleasantly •remembered by theewho hoard them on a previous visit. To, complete the .extensive-' programme, an entirely new -selection of bioscope pictures will "be shown-for the first tihvj! in New Zealaud.
