Benjamin Rowsell, 'a mail • about, fortytwo years, of age, committed suicide last "night, He was a mediical man and held in high esteem'by a large circle, of friends to whom his tragic death caused a-great shock. He had been (travelling in the South Sea Islands, more especially with a view to study elephantiasis. He had been in Auckland "for the past eighten months, and was especially well-Jpiown as secretary of the St. George Rowing Club. v The proprietor of the Commercial Hotel, with whom Rowsell had been Staying, received a letter this morning stating that lus body would be found either ■ at St. Stephens Cemetery, Parnell or at Orakei, and asking the. proprietor to communicate with tho police. Rowsell's body was found at Parnell cemetery. NAPIER, June 12. The inquest on the body of Alice Caro-. line Simpson, a voung married Avoinan, who died suddenly about three weeks ago, was resumed yesterday, when the-report of the Colonial Analyst on the contents of the .stomach was available. The. analyst found minute traces of a strong blistering irritant, but too small to identify. He suggested ' that it might be antharitic. Further evidence failed to elicit any. information as to how tho poison could have been taken by the deceased, as she was partly an invalid, and there was nothing of a poisonous nature about the house.
