LOVERS' QUARREL.

GIRL'S NOSE BITTEN OFF. Per Press Association. DUNEPIN, May .27 Thomas McKay, aged - or Saturday night, bit off a portion of the nose of Eliza' Mary Hall, aged 21. Accused* was at one time engaged tp Miss Hall, who resides with her father and sisters in Hanover street. Some months ago th» couple went to Melbourne which, is McKay's birhplace, to bo married. The girl, however, changed her mind and returned to Dunedin on Saturday, . Maekay nccompanying her. In .the afternoon they w?re walking along Castle street with Miss Hall's nster Franres, who was a short distance in advance, by herself. On Frances looking round she noticed the other pair stopping. Miss Hall began to scream, and cried out: "My nose is bitten." The suffering girl was taken to the Hospital where the doctors reported that a permanent disfigurement; would result. In the evening McKay went to Hall's house, when ha appeared to be very penitent, and went the length of requesting Hall to kill him. He is further reported to have taken up a weapon with the object of killing himself. Mackay was charjred with no«>e-biting, and was remandsd till Juno 4th.
