THE TRAINING OF YOUTHS.

HASTINGS, May 21.

An enthusiastic meeting was addressed last night by Major Smith, organiser of the National League of New Zealand. The following resolution was moved by Sir William Russell and! carried,—" That this meeting is in full accord with the National League in its endeavour to obtain universal military ;ind naval training for the youth of the colony, in order that when the occasion arises they may ha prepared to defend their home, • freedom and national honour, and, that branch of the League be formed at Ha;tings." Sir William Russell was elected president of the branch.

. The usual' Government parads of 'the Timaru Rifles Corps was held "on Monday evening, -when there was a- good muster under Captain MejS*ab.
