BARQUE IX DISTRESS.

IXVERCARGILL. May 16.

The Miltonburn. a four-masted steel barque, bound from Hamburg to the Gulf of California with coke, put in at the Bluff to-dav. She left Hamburg on November sth, "and like the Falls of Halladale some three years ago, tried in vain to make a westerly passage via Cape Horn, and had ultimately to come tast-about. She is now.lSldays out, and has lost her back stays and chain plate. Captain Benson decided to put in for repairs and provisions, and will probably remain a few days. The barque is a fine vessel of 2499 tons nett register, capable of carrying 4200 tons, and is owned by Shankland and Co.. of Greenock.

It is stated that consignees of the cargo f>f the» ship Stefano Rozeta have" been under the general averages called upon to iw.y 75 per cent, of the landed value of their consignments before delivery, and that the majority refused to do so.
