The steamer Thorthill, from New York to Brazil, took tire and foundered m midocean The crew, numbering 29, took to the four boats, and sailed 870 miles, landing at Barbadoes on the eighth day. STRANDING OF THE BIMU. Per Fress Association. DUNEDIN, May 15' \fter taking in transhipments tx the Suffolk the Rimu left the Bowen pier for Invercargill at 5.45 o'clock yesterday evening. In proceeding down the harbour in the darkness she grounded in the cross channel on the side nearest the mole. Reversing the engines failed to shift her ami further atempts by the Invercargill to tow her off this morning were also fruitless. She is sitting upright on a soft mud bank and has- sustained no damage as far as can be ascertained. Captain Sundstrum is confident that at h.iirh water this evening the Invercargill will tow her off easiiv. the failure this morning b<- ing due to the tide having receded too far when the attempt w;,s 1 made.
