Of the 217 deaths from cancer, Christchurch returned 6% Dunedin 54, Wellington 53, Auckland 49. This disease is increasing in destructivenes.s, the annual mortality due to it from 1902 to 1906 being > 165, 179, 184, 191, and 217. Christchurch ha* the lowest return for phthisis, /28, Auckland 41, Wellington 48, Dunedin ,59. Heart disease; cases were almost equally distributed. Dunedin suffered from pneumonia and bronchitis, 44 arid 37 respectively, Auckland with 30 and 34 coming next. . The total number of births in the came areas was 6512.. The average birth rate for the colony for the year was 27.08 per 1000/ For the city areas it land 26.36,> Wellington 27.76, Christchurch 28.23, Dunedin 27.03.
