Per Press Association. 'AUCKLAND, February 21. At the camp of No. 8 Garrison Artillery Voluuteers at Fcrt- Cautley, Takapuna, this afternoon John Bergin,- «• member of tha corps shot himself accidentally. At 4 o'clock Bergin « ei:-t into hi-: tent, evidently with the object of cleaning hi.s rille, and ten minutfrs later a shot was heard, and on Sergeant-Major Taylor going in he found the man lying dead, the bullet having entered the stomach and travelling upwards, coining out through the back of the neck. Evidently .Bergin had overlooked the fact that the weapon was loaded, as there is in> suggestion of suicide. Deceased was 25 vears of age, single, and a resident of Arch Hill, Auckland. TAUPO, Februaiy 21. A seven-j ear-old boy .named Rangi Sinallmann ivm scalded to death in a boiling spring- at Tokaaiiu. , A number of children were playing in hot baths, when Rangi jumped into the boiling spring by mistake. He lingered a few hours in fearful agony. A Hikurangi wire reports that William Belton, senior, was kil'ed; by a stone falling on him at a lime-kiln. GLSBORXE, February 21. The .stow Waikonini, from Mercury Bay, reports losing an A.B. named Gus Hanley, a Finn, aged thirty-nine, off Port Awanu.i, last evening. The nnwi, wars at the- wheel, whilst the captain and crew were at tea. and after tying th«> wheel up he took a lifebuoy and disappeared. The Vessel was fifteen miles off land. Hanley had beat i'.l during the .morning, and was recently out of the 'hospital. GREYMOUTH, February 21. The enquiry into the coach accident on Olira road was concluded to-day when the jury brought in a verdict that the child, Walter Roy Scott, met hi.s death through accident, no blame being attachable to anyone. ...
