Mr Smith, the Trmani railway guard who was the victim of a recant gso accident which necessitated the amputation of an arm, is reported ,to be making fair' progress 1 towards recovery. ' The loss of tfte will!, however, incapacitate, him from his former occupation, and as he has a wife and young family dependent-on iim, an appeal is made for financial assistance on his behalf. The r locar branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, which took prompt steps to assist him, and for the convenience of the public w n no might be dfcposed tohelp, left a subscription list at the office of the " Timaru Herald."
