The Late R. J. Seddon.
PKOPOSED' JOMQJtIALS. Per Press Association. ■WELLINGTON, June 26. The volunteer and cadet corps in the WeHicgton district are being invited by the officer commanding, on the suggestion of the Commandant, to subscribe to a fund for endowing a hospital bed as a memorial to Mr Seddon. HOKITIKA, June 26. A public meeting was held this evening to consider the advisability of erecting a memorial to the late. Premier in Westland. A resolution: was carried" affirming the desirability, and a sub-committee of canvassers was appointed; but I 'final decision on form the memorial should take was, adjourned till after-the election,; which is at present' engaging a great deal -of attention. ' ' DUNEDIN, June 26. A meeting was held at Mosgiel this evening to consider .the question of a memorial to the'late Mr Seddon,: Nothing was decided as to whether a local or a colonial memorial should.be esupported, but a committee was-set up to consider the matter and submit a proposal to a future, meetkg. At the opening of the Hospital Board's meeting yesterday, the chairman reminded members of the death of Mr Seddon since l,ast meeting, and.stated that he attended the funeral at Wellington as representative of that Board and of other- local bodies. There was a vast attendance at the ceremony, which was most impressive, and the feeling everywhere expressed was one of regret at the loss of the greatest political i leader in the and indeed, in Australasia. Mr Talbot moved' a resolution of regret and of sympathy with Mrs Sed : don and family and this / was- passed by members rising. •- •■■• •
