LONDON, February 19. The ■" Daily Chronicle's" Rome correspondent Teports that Don-Jaime, son of Don Carlos, was received in audience by the Pope. He protested against King Alfonso's alliance with a Princess of a Protestant house.
The Pope replied that his assent was conditionally possible upon the bride's spontaneous abjuration of Protestantism, which step was a private affair of conscience. Beyond this the Vatican did not intend to intervene.
