BULL OR NOT A BULL.

To the Editor of the " Timaru Herald." Sir, —I -notice in this morning's " Herald " under the head "Bull or not a bull" that you have attributed to Mr. CTaigie at Mr Rolieston's meeting on Tuesday night the crime of perpetrating, a. very respectable bull. Then again you refer to the Mayor's official organ, also to his own organ. I was at Mr Rolleston'g meeting and I distinctly 'heard the Mayor make .a mistake in his speech which created a humorous laugh all over the Theatre; but'l did not see or hear the organ or organs you refer to. lamat my wits' end to understand what kind- of organ or organs Mr Craigie takes about with him and what kind of music they play. Will you inform 'me through your columns as to the perpetrating a respectable bull.? I don't see how it could happen. The word perpetrate in my dictionary refers to crime or something that is bad, and I don't- see how you could have 'a respectable bull. Perhaps, Mr Editor, you are the gentleman • who some time ago gave this explanation of a bull to a lady, companion. The lady and gentleman referred to were walking through a field when the lady seeing a bull looking at her mistook the bull for a cow. The lady used this expression—" What a pretty cow. I wonder where its calffie calffie is." The gentleman i^ojScing£; of the bull advised ;fidvii^y ; :'to'.iun "for the fence. They got' through safe with this exception, .the lady's sunshade which was a bright «d was torn to.pieces by .the bull. The gentleman in trying' to console tha lady, gave the following explanation .of what a bull is—The. bull is a gentleman .a sensible excitable temperament which makes him an uncongenial companion wihen the prevailing style of dress fails to meet- his approbation. * Mr Editor, would that be a respectable bull? I am, etc., MRS A. BECK. [What does our correspondent think of his respectibility?—Ed. T.H.]
