GLY-GROG SELLING.
THE ASHBURTON CASES. . Per Press Association. . . ASHBURTON, December 1. The s'.y-grog cases are being heard before Mr V. G. Day, S.M. There are eighteen inforaiations against nine persons. Samuel Alexander, against whom there was one information for selling liquor ,in a prohibited district JV was sentenced* to two months' imprisonment. This is the second time Alexander has been sentenced to imprisonment for the same o£fence. . Jnlia Hylanda (two informations) was fined £lO and costs or the first, and a conviction entesed on the secoafi. The police ai?e to make enquiries into' the evidence of one witness ior the defence' -with, a view - ' ta further proceedings, the Magistrate remarking that he did not believe his evidence. H. P. Milsom (one information), was fined £3O. Michael Lagan, (two informations), dismissed. James Burgess (two informations), fined £lO. Mrs Burgess (one information), convicted and ordered to pay costs. H. Cranfield (two informations), finwi £lB. Charles Lagan (one information), diamJssed j R. Neakia (six informations), adjotrrned for] a week.
