A POLITICAL BIRTHDAY.

The Rt. Hon. the Premier passed through Timnru yesterday to nunedin. where he will open the new Maternity Home. He alighted- from the train at Timatu. and met a few friends. Expecting that representations on some public business would be made to the visitor, some interested persons sought for liim in the "social hall" formerly sacred to such occasions. Theie was no Premier or deputation there, how'ver, and a systematic seorch of both staion premise* atnl train failed to lcvenl the party. and tlie search was given up. Later u the day. en<|uiry elicited that tlie Pre.nier and hi* friends iirrl pone across to the Club Hotel: the disappointed searchers lad forgotten that tlie tailway station has 'io longer a license. In the- favoured hostelry, over a- glass of wine; the Premier informed his Tiniaru friends that that day vas the twenty sixth anitivcrsaty of his jlectiua to Parliament.
