THE EXODUS TO CHILI.
ATTACK OX THE PRESS. United Press Association—Per Electric Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, September . 29. . Ministers and others attacked the Press in the Assembly for exaggerated statements regarding the exodus to Chili, and said that such statements -would do harm, and take a long time to undo. The Government were doing "what was possible to make land available. The Press, in reply to the attacks with regard to the exodus of farmers to Chili, say they are justified in showing what was going .011 and giving the Government an opportunity of remedying the matter. Mr Carruthers, who was most indignant at the action of the Press, is reminded that
eight ago, in' .the...course of a speech, he said there wirre""thousands of men with the necessary capital to go on the land who had not got " Buckley's chance" of getting there, and declared that it- had broken the hearts of tbe men who desired to get- on the land, and who had given up as hopeless whatever chauec they deemed thev had.
